The TPD: Problems and Solutions
Tue 7 Feb 2017
For vapers and the vaping industry in the EU, the upcoming TPD regulations are about to offer up a whole new set of problems and challenges. You can read all about the TPD regulations here, and you can read our TPD Compliance Statement here.
In this article we’ll go through a few of the main problems that this new legislation will cause and, more importantly, how you can overcome them.
Problem: 2ml Tank Restrictions
For some reason, EU lawmakers decided that restricting the size of your tank to 2ml was a good idea. It’s hard to see why, because all it means is that you’ll have to fill it up more often.
We are aware of a few tank manufacturers that are planning on offering their customers so called “spares kits” that will include a larger glass tank portion and an extended shaft section. This will allow the user to turn their 2ml tank into a much larger one. However, this may get clamped down on, especially if it becomes very prominent in the market place. If this does happen though, it’s not the end of the world. Remember, some of the most popular tanks of all time have had small capacities (Aspire Atlantis, Wotofo Serpent Mini, Aspire Mini Nautilus etc), and that RDAs are still the prefered vaping option for many vapers despite holding very little e liquid.
Problem: No More 72mg Nicotine
This has been a point of contention, but it’s now clear that high strength nicotine will soon have to be removed from sale. This will be a major change for those who make their own e liquid. However, there is a simple solution!
Nicotine Shots! Using TPD compliant nicotine shots will allow DIY vapers to continue making their own e liquid without much hassle. Yes, DIY e liquid will soon become a bit more expensive, but compared with the price of compliant pre-mixed e liquid, the cost saving will still be huge. Speaking of which….
Problem: E Liquid Limited to 10ml Bottles
This is the one that will probably have the biggest negative effect on vapers. Yes, nicotine containing e liquid will soon be limited to 10ml bottles. This will surely hit vapers in the pocket as many have become accustomed to buying larger amounts and saving money. Also, e liquid will most likely become more expensive as it needs to be tested and notified, which isn’t cheap.
Making your own e liquid. Yes, you’d expect us to say that as we’re a DIY e liquid company, but the number really do stack up. For example, a 30ml bottle of DIY e liquid at 6mg made using Kaveman Juice concentrates and a nicotine shot will cost around £2.20 to make. This is a massive saving on buying three 10ml bottles of pre-mixed e liquid for around £12-£16. Also, with DIY e liquid, you can make as much or as little as you like. We will soon be introducing Bottle Shots too, which will give DIY vapers an even simpler option when making their own e liquid.
Of course, there are more issues that the TPD will cause than what we’ve mentioned , but these are the main ones that will impact on ordinary vapers. If you have any questions about the TPD and the effects it will have, feel free to get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
